    EDI 867

    Product Transfer & Resale Report

The EDI 867 Product Transfer and Resale Report transaction set serves several purposes. It may report information relevant to a product that has been transferred to a new location, or it can be used to report the sales of a product from several different locations. It may also be used to detail returns from customers to a distribution center or retail location, or to or report demand that surpassed sales (lost sales).

Information Conveyed in the EDI 867

The EDI 867 document may be sent by either the buyer or the seller when information on product transfers is requested by the other.  After the 867 Product Transfer and Resale Report is received, a 997 Functional Acknowledgment is sent back from the receiver as confirmation that it was successfully received. Information conveyed in this document set includes:

    • Organization identification information
    • Product and purchase details
    • Transaction totals by line item, weight, and size

    Industries That Use EDI 867

The 867 transaction set is used in a variety of industries, but particularly in retail, where retailers communicate to their suppliers regarding the sales of their products. It can also be used by manufacturers, wholesalers, distributors, and utility companies.

How an EDI 867 is Processed

An EDI 867 document set is made up of segments and codes that are very difficult for the layperson to decipher. For this reason, EDI integration is recommended to handle EDI. Through EDI integration the data required for the EDI 867 is pulled from your computer system and sent through an EDI translator to your trading partner. This cuts down on the need for manual entry (cutting labor costs) and virtually eliminates the risk of data entry errors.
